Christmas is upon us and we are thinking of buying a new printer for ourselves or even as a gift. Why not, the prices are so incredible you can afford it. To help you make this decision, I have a few tips to help you make an "educated" purchase.
1) "Duty Cycle"
Under normal conditions, how many printed copies will you be able to expect without repairs being eminent. So if you or the person you are buying the printer for is printing a lot of copy, be sure your purchase matches the output. You can find your duty cycle in the manual you receive with the printer, copier or fax or you can get that information online at the manufacturer's website.
2) Page Per Minute or PPM
This is a very important feature that needs to be considered if the machine is going to be used for business or home. If you are a person who prints a lot of pages in a short time then the higher the number of pages per minute is the answer. When you are purchasing the printer, fax or copier it usually is part of the pricing ticket as well as if it is a duplicating (2-sided copies) or if it is color, laser, or inkjet.
3) Resolution
Resolution is determined by the dots per inch (also known as DPI). If you are using the printer for photographs, digital or anything that you want to have the sharpest picture quality then you will chose a printer, fax or copier with the highest DPI.
4) 2-Sided or Duplex Copies
If you are using this for business or home office then be sure that it does duplicate and you will not have to remove the paper and re-insert it. This will only make you time using the machine quicker but if time is not important and you do not do a lot of 2 sided copying then opt out of this feature and save a few dollars.
5) Assorted paper size trays
If you print more than just paper; (i.e. business cards, greeting cards, legal documents, programs etc.) then make sure that the printer can handle all of your requests.
6) Last but the most important- Price
Remember you are not just purchasing a printer, fax or copier. It will come with some maintenance such as replacement of the ink, toner or thermal ribbons as needed. So weigh out the price of the printer on whether you can use aftermarket ink, toner or fax cartridges in this machine. If you are going to have to use the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) brand ink and toner, it will end up that you will be paying more for the replacement cartridges than the printer. Be sure that if you are going to use the aftermarket (compatible) cartridges that you find a well-established online printer, fax and copier products supplier.
7) Replacement Ink and Toner- Online
Pricing is a factor but not as important as some other considerations. There are many online stores and it is hard to know which one to choose. You will want to look for a store that has a 100% Guarantee on their products, offers Free Shipping, No Cost Returns if not satisfied and lastly and more importantly the they have built a reputation with the BBB and online security.
Printer Products Etc. has all of those qualities and more. Purchase your ink and toner from a Reputable Online Store at incredible prices. See Products
